About Caryn Herring

CARYN HERRING, PhD, CCC-SLP is a person who stutters, a speech-language pathologist, and the Executive Director of the non-profit support organization Friends: The National Association of Young People Who Stutter. Caryn also, privately, treats children and adults who stutter. She graduated with her PhD from Michigan State University, her MS from Purdue University, and her BA from the University of Pittsburgh. Before obtaining her PhD, Caryn created the speech therapy program at SAY (The Stuttering Association for the Young) and served as the head SLP. Caryn has presented at conferences and Universities across the country. Caryn has also co-hosted the Stutter Talk “B-Team” since July, 2010 and was featured on the MTV documentary, “True Life – I Stutter.” Caryn offers private individualized stuttering therapy for children, adolescents, and adults who stutter. Therapy focuses on: -Reducing effects stuttering may have on a person’s life-Developing communication skills and changing attitudes-Increasing self-confidence about speaking and instilling a sense of empowerment-Counseling and educating families, friends and teachers-Diagnostic evaluations for children, adolescents and adults who stutter -Classroom presentations-Parents groups-Resources for stuttering support/self-help groups-Ongoing professional consultations and continuing education for the professional community-School in-service presentations
