I am currently undertaking a DPhil in Cellular Structural Biology, funded by the Wellcome Trust. My DPhil project aims to unravel the molecular mechanism of a novel membrane-tethered ubiquitin ligase complex that regulates Hedgehog signalling using structural biology, under the supervision of Prof. Christian Siebold, Dr. Loic Carrique and Prof. Yvonne Jones in the Division of Structural Biology (STRUBI).

My work in Dr Tracey Gloster's laboratory primarily involved investigating the structural and mechanistic properties of human carbohydrate processing enzyme N-acetyl-D-glucosamine-6-phosphate deacetylase, a member of the amidohydrolase superfamily that catalyses the deacetylation of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine-6-phosphate. This included solving the structure of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine-6-phosphate deacetylase and developing a spectrophotometric assay to measure enzyme activity. As part of the MBiochem integrated Masters degree, I undertook an external research placement within the Structural Biology Platform at The Francis Crick Institute supervised by Dr Svend Kjær and Phil Walker. My work involved the structural and biophysical characterisation of novel nanobodies against the human Wnt-depalmitoleating enzyme Notum, and subsequently exploring its potential applications as a biosensor tool.
