Re-structuring course content to improve student engagement using in-class applications and de-briefings. Enhancing content with COVID-19 related examples to help students understand changes in markets, the role of government in responding to pandemics, etc. Developing new policy brief assignment that required students reflect on the microeconomics of COVID-19 (cost-benefit of lockdowns, price of crude oil). Topics covered: opportunity cost and comparative advantage, supply and demand models, elasticity, externalities and public goods, production and market types, inequality and poverty, labor markets and race-based discrimination.

Providing access support for a student who is blind completing APEC 1101: Principles of Microeconomics. Designing and constructing tactile graphs corresponding to the course topics, as well as complementary written descriptions of each graph's axes, curves, and points of interest. Translating course materials (such as tables) into accessible formats for the student. Reviewing material from lecture with student to address gaps in understanding related to access. Assisting the student with the completion of assignments through verbal descriptions of visual representations (graphs, pictures). Reviewing course examinations and altering them to improve student access while still assessing for student understanding of the key concept.

Providing one-on-one or small group support as a part of regular office hours. Grading activities and exams. Facilitating discussion-based course, PA 5501: Theories and Policies of Development, for graduate students. Re-designing course based on tutorial-style instruction to strengthen remote, synchronous engagement: students met weekly in groups of 8-9 instead of twice weekly as an entire class. Developing asynchronous videos to complement student readings (ex: one video covered principles of Foucault, to help students engage with Arturo Escobar's research). Collaborating with the past course instructor to strengthen reading content. Encouraging discussion and debate in the classroom through a "devil's advocate" clause, in which the instructor offers counter-arguments from different perspectives. Topics covered: economic development as growth (exogenous vs. endogenous growth models, dependency theory, geography and growth, developmental states, structural readjustment), human development (with applications to microfinance, child labor, education, gender, and health), and sustainable development (the SDG's, strong vs. weak sustainability, de-growth theory).

Instructor for PA 5021: Microeconomics for Policy Analysis. Developing syllabus and lecture content (notes for students) that targeted introductory and intermediate microeconomics learning objectives for students with diverse analytical backgrounds. Assisting in student applications of microeconomic theory to real-world policy research topics - including rent ceilings, the minimum wage, and food assistance - via reading reflections and facilitated in-class discussion. Supporting student growth through office hour sessions and review-based discussion sessions.

In collaboration with Dr. Ragui Assaad and Dr. Caroline Krafft, our study team undertakes economic and social science research projects related to youth vulnerability, labor markets, inequality, demography, and other topics, with a regional focus on the Middle East and North Africa. Tasks include cleaning and analyzing survey microdata, summarizing relevant literature, constructing econometric models, writing statistical code (STATA), and contributing to publications as co-author. Current major projects are: the 2017-2019 Youth Vulnerability in the Middle East and North Africa (funded by the Ford Foundation), the 2017 Jordan Labor Market Panel Survey (Economic Research Forum), and the 2018 Egypt Labor Market Panel Survey (Economic Research Forum). Project management responsibilities such as the preparation of grants and IRB applications are also a part of this role.

Coding articles in education journals for descriptive characteristics of studies as well as replication and robustness-checking practices, such as the use of two or more estimation procedures and/or data sets, serious subgroup replication, and explicit replication of previous studies. Contributing to the empirical evaluation of coding outcomes and study write-up.

Temporary research assistant supporting the work of economist Dr. Steven Levitt and Dr. Susanne Neckermann. Contributing to research on the CHECC early childhood development intervention and Breakthrough intervention to combat homelessness through extensive data cleaning. Assisting in the evaluation of the Brain Train after-school academic program by researching and summarizing relevant peer reviewed papers and reports for use in literature reviews. Preparing the foundation for a gamification study in partnership with CitiBank by compiling relevant surveys of employee satisfaction, employee motivation, and positive affect in the workplace for use in the study baseline and endline questionnaire.

Serving as a teaching assistant for the Statistical Theory and Applications for Public Policy II (Introduction to Econometrics) course. Supporting graduate students in introductory econometrics through regular office hours as well as TA session lectures and overviews. Designing lesson plans that provided clarity on the statistical concepts that students struggle most with, and compiling this information into user-friendly notes available to all students via the Chalk website. Collaborating with the TA team with problem set, exam grading, and review session preparation.

Assisting the Council remotely and on a part-time basis with tasks related to the written evaluation of the Ishraq program and the Survey of Young People in Egypt (SYPE) 2014 study. Researching, reviewing, and summarizing relevant studies for use in literature review of the Ishraq peer-reviewed program evaluation. Conducting quantitative analysis using SYPE micro data for the SYPE Preliminary Report and SYPE Final Report: constructing do files, analyzing and drafting results. Co-authoring the SYPE 2015 Preliminary Report and co-authoring chapter of the SYPE 2015 Final Report on gender attitudes among Egyptian youth.
