Full Stack Developer And CtoTransparenVancouver, Bc, Ca -
Flutter Developer, Software ArchitectTransparen Jun 2020 - PresentUniondale, New York, Us• Provided the Initial product vision, tech architecture, implementation for a service provider - homeowner connection app. • Implementation in Flutter, Firebase and Hasura• Worked across disciplines including tech (especially AI), marketing, PR, sales and support• Wrote CLI which generated 1000’s of web pages using Claude or ChatGPT• Wrote CLI to fact check previously generated web pages.• Wrote API which would access Claude API to generate Ideas, Goals and Tasks for a project management paradigm we were exploring. Then wrote a frontend which displayed the results as post-it notes that could be edited.• Wrote a CLI which could recursively write programs, test them, and re-edit them, as an experiment in tool use. It would remember previous instructions, check results, try multiple times to get the correct answer, and correctly stop once it succeeded.• Deep dive into database, AI, multi-step prompting, multi-step chain-of-thought prompting, independent AI bot creation, presentation layers, API generation and use in the context of independent AI, reduction of costs through improved error correction, various improved automations techniques inspired by AI, etc. -
Software ArchitectTransparen Oct 2019 - Aug 2020Uniondale, New York, Us• Contract requiring 40+ hours per week• Architecting, managing and programming a system for sharing information with several levels of encryption and security controls, where the server does not maintain access to the data in transit. Details under NDA.• React, React Native, Objection, Knex, Node.js, PostgreSQL. -
Fractional Cto / Front End ArchitectSpoddr Nov 2018 - Aug 2024Austin, Texas, Us• Led the development of Spoddr's app using frontend of React Native, and backend using express.js, axios, and objection.js/knex, resulting in a successful release on the IOS App Store.• Implemented Fastlane for auto-deployment to iTunes Connect and CircleCI for automated build/deploy processes, streamlining development operations.Postmortem: This app was completed, and the business is still alive. The founding entrepreneur has a slow-and-steady approach which allowed development to be done over time and prevented the project or company from fizzling out. Over time the company has become better, learning how it really creates value for its customers. Now with that information, it is able to confidently approach customers and offer its services bringing new customers in through the door, and then bringing them back through its loyalty programs. -
Vp Of Information SecurityDoxy.Me Dec 2021 - Mar 2024Charleston, South Carolina, Us• Contract requiring 40+ hours per week. Managed 4 directly plus interactions with other departments.• Moved processes from ManageEngine to Atlassian Jira. Outsourced desktop support to Electric AI• Implemented security policies from zero up to SOC2 type 2 compliance• Applied leadership and management principles, to allow the organization to pass three SOC2 type 2 audits as well as to achieve a positive HIPAA 3rd party assessment.• Okta, AWS, EKS, AWS Fargate, EC2, Lacework, Datadog, Google Workspaces, Gitlab, Atlassian JiraPostmortem: After this position I reflected on the reason why growing organizations implement compliance practices, and how a professional can help them to stay motivated. One of the things I learned was that information security shouldn't start with compliance; it should start with identifying really frightening risks, and an honest introspective of the organization into how well it would survive if those risks came to pass. The board of directors or CEO has to indicate whether they are prepared to accept each risk, or if they want to take steps to mitigate, prevent, or insure against the risk. From this kind of decision making process, information security initiatives have a solid foundation. -
Director Of Technical OperationsDoxy.Me Aug 2020 - Dec 2021Charleston, South Carolina, Us• Contract requiring 40+ hours per week. Managed 4 directly plus interactions with other departments.• Navigated period following rapid growth.• Responded to Security Questionnaires, supporting the VP Infosec in this• Worked with developers, QA, and managed the deployment process• Created and worked within an incident management process to respond to any issues – eventually they were less and less prior to the move to VP Infosec.• Provided input into architectural changes, as well as helped document the architecture of the time• Agile/Scrum, Jira, AWS, Node.js, MySQL, VPN -

It suffered from many different problems. 1) on/off business, where it tried to pay for software development only in the winter months - when there is more competition from other projects. 2) 30% margin, didn't work for all cities/counties. 3) the tech budget wasn't sufficient for the tech needs. 4) the operations budget wasn't sufficient for the operations needs. 5) insufficient or ineffective marketing, 6) the weather - it depended on snow, and there were a few years without enough snow. Snowhub tried to pivot into 'Home Services Hub' in order to provide year-round services, but there was not enough money to complete that pivot, so Snowhub eventually closed down. -

Project SponsorFortran Traffic Systems Limited Jun 2013 - Mar 2017Toronto, On, Ca• Contract requiring 40+ hours per week, and a team of 20 developers.• Created a system to manage the traffic lights and intersections of medium to large cities.• The project had 10 modules, and the timeline required a larger team to make progress on all of the modules simultaneously.• Managed the relationship between local team, company sponsor team, and the company sponsor client's team.• Successfully delivered the required software, which was accepted by the sponsor's client, for which they also won a prestigious award.Postmortem: The project was objectively a success, as measured by the prestigious award. But it wasn't profitable. The team that did the project, based in Ukraine, did not stand and get the credit. It was presented as a 100% Canadian project. There were huge cost overruns which came out of my personal reputation and pocketbook for months - probably years - after this project. The customer payments were very irregular and finally we didn't get our last contracted payment. In response to these realities I didn't immediately and decisively take the painful steps I needed to take to downsize the company, and this inaction on my side was disastrous. I hope my colleagues have mostly forgiven me by now, and I still hope to make it up to them somehow. The most important lesson is that scaling down / unwinding a project is just as important as scaling up - even possibly more important - and it is critical to keep tight control over salaries paid relative to project progress. I think if I had done that, the project might have still been profitable even with the issues of irregular and withheld payments on the customer side. Additionally we had been exposed to a currency risk which I had not planned for, in that the CAD decreased during the time of the project from $1 USD to $0.70, and the Ukrainians programmers were all measuring their salaries against the USD (not CAD, not UAH). So this was another lesson learned. -
