I am an ambitious lawyer who through private practice and a series of fascinating roles within the Government Legal Service, and The Pensions Regulator, has developed extensive analytical, teamwork, communication and project development skills. All these were required, for example, during the negotiation with the Canadian Government to allow British Forces to train in Canada and with immediate annual savings of £2million, plus a projected £250million saving around environmental liabilities, the project was a huge success. Oh, and it also enabled outstanding pre-deployment training for our soldiers.I've a track record in collaboration and teamwork, whether during the development of a high-profile HMRC counter-fraud initiative, a public inquiry involving the Met Police, consultation with the media industry during the development of the AVMS legislation, or taking forward the societal, game-changing, Auto-Enrolment initiative. Problem-solving, and working in (and leading) teams to deliver legally robust important Government and wider policy is something I have been doing for the past 20 years: it's not only a source of really huge pride to me, but has also allowed me to progress one of my passions - developing people. That has continued at The Pensions Regulator, with a passion. I'm as interested in life away from the desk too. As an Army child myself, I have a huge passion for all things military and my time at the Ministry of Defence, involved in incredible work, gave me the opportunity to work closely with the military and observe their energy, their attention to detail, and their commitment: all things I constantly seek to emulate. My ongoing participation in the Royal Commonwealth Ex-Services League through personal fundraising, my role as Honorary Legal Advisor, and my position on the Finance Committee and SMT gives me an opportunity to help improve the lives of soldiers and widows who fought for the Commonwealth. It puts a lump in the throat and is a source of incredible pride. ....and I love sport. Rugby, tennis, skiing, squash and running are all pastimes, pursued with varying degrees of success! Ditto photography. The weekend usually finds me hiking somewhere in the Sussex Downs.
