I joined Cloudera as a Developer in Test and eventually transitioned to product development.The last project I worked on was Impala which is an Open-source Analytic Query Engine for Hadoop (SQL for Hadoop). Besides working on product features, I created two high impact test systems and improved developer tooling. • Primary developer (C++/Java) on the integration of a new storage engine (Kudu)• Assisted junior teammates• Increased developer productivity by setting up distcc servers and automated docker builds• Increased product by finding a large number of critical bugs through a concurrent workload stress test• Wrote a random query generator to compare Impala results against Postgres. Found a large number of critical bugs in a short time.• Debugged and resolved issues on the user mailing listBefore joining the Impala team, I built test infrastructure for the Cloudera Manager team. Cloudera Manager is a Cluster Manager for Hadoop. It provisions, manages, and monitors various Hadoop services. At the time I joined the team was about 5 people and about 30 people when I left. During that time, my main objective was to build and maintain an end-to-end test framework used by Cloudera Manager developers.• Wrote internal infrastructure (Python) to deploy and test a Hadoop clusters• Tested Cloudera Manager and Hadoop components using the infrastructure. Helped developers use the infrastructure and implemented improvements based on feedback.
