As a convention services manager I help coordinate meetings, conventions and other special events that are held at my property. I work to synchronize the needs of the group planning the event and the staff of my hotel. I meet with representatives of groups and organizations to discuss what they have in mind for their meeting or special event. I review contractual agreements and keep records of all communications in writing. I meet with the heads of other departments in the hotel to coordinate any planned events. I monitor events and address unexpected problems as they arise to make sure that the functions go as planned.I reserve conference rooms and coordinate services for groups and organizations holding meetings, conventions and other events on hotel grounds. I organize banquet or catering services, reserve video or audio equipment and plan any changes to the configuration of the event space. The main job function of my position is to ensure that all events run as planned.

As the Community Engagement Intern for Decatur Public School District I am responsible for creating clear and open communication lines between the school district and the public by utilizing interactive and engaging social media outreach. I work closely with the Director of Community Engagement to maintain positive relationships between the Decatur Public School District and the local media.
