CaseyMcLerranThrough poetry, I explore themes of relating Self and Now to the infinite of human consciousness or experience to question how we gauge change and improvement.With collage and shadow boxes I attempt to visualize our attachment to material things in the context of our emotional and experiential needs often forgone to gain those material goods as well as our fear of letting go often to the detriment of our physical and mental wellbeing.In music and beadwork I explore the ancestral symbolism associated with the strength and harmony of the circle or ellipse in juxtaposition with our very linear modern world views of time and knowledge.Themes of Place and Space are viewed through technical drawing and modeling inviting us to question intentions and methodology execution surrounding our daily living experiences. Through arts education and community efforts I aim to model valuing our space and time to create through the exploration of dimensional thinking, accessing metaknowledge through interdisciplinary skill building, self care/self reflective arts, and through the examination of the relationship between communication/obfuscation within artistic intention and skill. Casey:McLerranBorn in Forest Hills, New York, McLerran’s move to Tulsa in early childhood shaped deeply her perspectives related to place, space, and identity. McLerran’s body of work is an attempt to unravel stereotypes and generalizations that are often heavily relied on as a means of avoiding deeper self (or societal) reflection. While McLerran’s aim is designing a more inclusive future on a foundation of diversity her methodology is one of nuance, intuition, listening, and understanding.
