Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital at Mercy Medical Center

During this level II Physical Dysfunction Fieldwork at Trinity Health Of New England’s Rehabilitation Hospital I had the opportunity to work with the following diagnoses: neurological disorders including MS and CVA, LE amputations, spinal surgeries, orthopedic injuries, and debility due to overall medical complexity. I had the opportunity to observe, treat, and evaluate patients at Mercy Medical Center’s acute hospital as needed for OT coverage. I demonstrated the ability to independently carry a case load of up to six treatment hours in an eight-hour day as per facility guidelines. Completing the necessary volume of work to maintain a full case load included, completion of scheduling, team meetings, family meetings, caregiver training, discharge planning, and ordering DME.

During this level II Outpatient Pediatric Fieldwork at Pediatric Therapy Associates, I had the opportunity to work with children who had the following: Autism spectrum disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Sensory processing disorder, children with emotional regulation difficulties, fine motor control difficulties, visual perceptual difficulties, developmental delay, and executive functioning/cognitive delays. I demonstrated the ability to independently carry a case load of up to 11 clients in a 10.5-hour day as per facility guidelines. Completing the necessary volume of work to maintain a full case load included, timely documentation, team meetings, and family education/caregiver training.

In this job role my responsibilities include, food preparation, food service, independently submitting inventory orders, properly managing lottery and alcohol sales, independent decision making and problem solving, training new employees, and closing the business.

Sensory Processing and Integration

As a companion, my roles included assisting with IADLs and leisure activities such as cooking, drawing, and playing the guitar. I provided assistance for positioning, functional mobility, and task breakdown. Unfortunately my time spent with this client was cut short due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

My responsibilities in this role include, opening and closing independently, answering patron questions, referring or directing patrons, shelving books using an numerical system, and managing the front desk.
