Following my graduation from Middlebury College in 2009, I underwrote and acquired the historic Chebeague Island Inn at the age of 22, using seller financing as the means to raise the capital required for the acquisition. In the years that followed, I increased the gross revenue at the Inn by a multiple of 6 and developed a reputation of excellence, earning the Inn a ranking on Conde Nast’s Gold List, a list of the top 500 hotels in the world. Leveraging the success at Chebeague Island Inn, I formed The Prentice Organization its subsidiary, Prentice Hospitality Company, and began to grow a company with a diverse portfolio of operating businesses and real estate assets, earning the 2014 Maine Family Business Award for First Generation Businesses.In 2013 I spearheaded the efforts to acquire and reposition the former Portland Company Complex – a 10.5 acre waterfront parcel in downtown Portland, ME. After facilitating a multi-year courtship of the seller of the site, I presented a business and development plan to align the complex interests of the seller with the those of the limited partners that were assembled for the equity required for the transaction. After a nearly 8-year entitlement period that resulted in 1.5M SF of urban mixed-use, I have built-out a formidable development team, who collectively have completed and stabilized the $27M Fore Points Marina, $100M mixed-use project that houses the US HQ of Sun Life Financial, Inc, as well as other real estate assets. Collectively the company has approximately $125 million of assets under management (AUM).Creative deal structuring and operational aptitude continue to be hallmarks of the company’s success. I continue to lead the company’s operations and growth, seeking transformational opportunities centered around adaptive reuse and urban infill, infusing them with a “cultural sustainability” mindset that looks at balancing community, customers, and business interests.
