Responsible for implementation of a comprehensive strategy to promote Downtown Cedar Rapids, including but not limited to advocacy and communications to champion district interests; actively marketing for the attraction, expansion and retention of business; promotion of infill development; parking management; housing initiatives; and the overall improvement of the quality of life within the Self-Supporting Municipal Improvement District (SSMID) boundaries while serving as the executive liaison between the SSMID, Economic Alliance, and City government. Two highlights of this job were updating the district vision plan which received a Certificate of Merit in Planning from the International Downtown Association and the successful renewal of a district tax ordinance with more than 77% of property owners impacted supporting the petition to renew the tax and a unanimous approval from the City Council - a testament to the work of the district!

Served as chief strategist, decision-maker and responsible for budget development. Successful project management included long-range facility planning, new business development, data conversions, capital improvements and operation relocation. Managed a board of directors; increased size, average term length and level of engagement of board members. Led organizational disaster recovery in tandem with relocation and no lapse in business activity.Track record of locating, hiring and retaining top talent and managing a skill-diverse team. Proactive community participant and leader, engaged as a creative event planner and voice in local development.Grew organization, eliminated debt, improved credit, and seeded rainy day and endowed funds. Contracted to serve as drama director mostly musicals but also some plays and classes at Franklin Middle School during all of these school years as well as at McKinley Middle School, Kennedy High School and Wilson School for some of the time during those same years. Depending on the production and the school, contracts also sometimes included choreography, vocal direction, scenic and lighting design, set and prop construction, finish painting, and technical direction. Regardless of the production and the school, all projects included casting, coaching and teambuilding. This was a labor of love first and a gig second. Encouraging hundreds of young people through the vehicle of theatre was a wonderful experience.

Work included stand-in and featured extra while highlights included roles in commercials and industrial films. Although this is no longer a primary occupation, I am still afforded occasional onstage opportunities typically in musical theatre.
