Clinical Research And Project Manager
In 2009 I was recruited to join Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital (formerly Children’s Memorial Hospital) and help build the Center for Autonomic Medicine in Pediatrics (CAMP). The Center is an interdisciplinary translational medicine program dedicated to the study of diseases affecting the autonomic nervous system (ANS) in children with rare and with more common disorders, with aim to use research innovation to transform the care of the special children served by CAMP internationally and locally. My role in CAMP was to guide development of a collaborative, translational research program for the division. This role included short- and long-term strategic planning, development and oversight of collaborative projects to expand our knowledge of pediatric autonomic diseases, building and nurturing collaborative relationships with centers and investigators around the world, procuring research funding through grant application, development of material for peer-reviewed publication of study results, and establishing and overseeing a student internship research program. This role has included oversight of CAMP clinical and research team during research activities. Highlights of this role include: • Grant applications resulting in external funding for 25 research projects • Peer-reviewed publication of CAMP research including over 30 original journal articles, 6 invited review articles, over 40 abstract publication, and several editorials and chapters. • Development of CAMP Exceptional Student Program, with internship and mentoring for an average 5-7 graduates per year
Freelance Writer
Freelance author and editor for Heinemann-Raintree, an educational materials division of Capstone Publishing. In this role I have written over 10 published titles and contributed editorially to several others.
Research Project Coordinator
In my position at Rush University Medical Center my responsibilities include planning, organizing, communicating and implementing study objectives to further our knowledge of the genetics of pediatric respiratory diseases. My role included developing protocols for DNA and RNA isolation, manipulation, and sequencing, bioinformatics and statistical analysis, and cell-based laboratory technique. Additionally, this role included preparation and publication of results in peer-reviewed journals resulting in publication of 10 original journal articles, and 15 abstracts.
