CurrentProvides health care services to students by listening to concerns and making preliminary findings; identifying problems and providing basic first aid techniques; calls for professional assistance as needed; maintains related health records; assists nurses in screening students for various health concerns; advises parents of legal requirements such as immunizations and available community services.Duties:Administers first aid for scrapes, broken bones, sprained joints, cuts and bruises which may include applying ice packs, washing wound, bandaging and immobilizing limbProvides health care services to students in accordance with their individual specialized and/or emergency health care plansCommunicates with students and identifies symptoms and health problemObserves student to determine degree of medical services required and takes temperatures as neededMaintains and updates student health files recording results of check-ups, immunizations, physicals and height and weight; enters related data into computer terminal as requiredContacts parents, nurse or paramedics as neededChecks students for communicable diseases such as lice, nits, rashes or chicken pox, and if found, advises parents or legal guardians via phone or form letter of treatment, available community services and readmit policyGives prescribed medications to students and maintains related records according to established procedures and guidelinesCompiles data and prepares a variety of reportsProcesses a variety of applications/form letters and maintains logs and listsCommunicates with parents regarding school or legal requirements, child's exposure to contagious diseases and sources of services or methods of treatmentPerforms a variety of clerical duties such as typing, data entry, filing, answering phones, medical billing and ordering supplies
