As a Policy & Communications Manager, I lead coalition and committee coordination, project design and management, research, writing and editing for diverse audiences, policy platform development, and advocacy. I develop community partnerships with government leaders, directly impacted community members, CCE Board members, and other diverse stakeholders to identify and develop policy solutions and educational initiatives to improve the fairness and performance of D.C.’s criminal legal system. Through my work, I draft, design, and implement project plans while collaborating with people directly impacted by D.C.’s criminal legal system, helping ensure CCE’s work aligns with our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion values and that each project utilizes a race equity lens. I plan and facilitate conversations, panels, and events with D.C. government leaders, directly impacted residents, high profile lawyers, and community-based organizations. I actively problem-solve and develop solutions to move CCE’s criminal legal system policy priorities forward and create change. I draft and deliver testimony before D.C. Council, draft Op-Eds for publication in The Washington Post, gather data to reinforce policy positions, and more.In my role, I am also responsible for leading CCE’s public communications work, including social and traditional media, creating publications, and maintaining CCE’s website. I am responsible for drafting and reviewing social media content for CCE’s Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. I also lead the drafting and layout of CCE’s quarterly newsletter. I utilize Canva to create graphics for social media posts and format informational one-pagers about the organization’s work and initiatives.

As a Policy Associate at The Sentencing Project, I provided research assistance and drafting for publications, briefing papers, newsletters, and copy-edited documents. I co-authored “Opioids: Treating an Illness, Ending a War” with Dr. Nazgol Ghandnoosh. In my role, I also managed The Sentencing Project's Facebook and Twitter pages, drafted social media posts, and created graphics and images for social media and other publications utilizing Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I actively participated in coalition meetings and collaborated with coworkers and community partners on research and advocacy projects that highlighted the racial disparities within the United States’ criminal legal system and identified areas for reform.

As a Resident Advisor at the University of Virginia I am in charge of a hall of 26 girls. I am responsible to plan programs, handle emergency situations as they arise, enforce the rules, work in a group environment with my fellow staff members, be an active and present member of the community, and fill out appropriate paperwork in a timely fashion. Not only is this job extremely rewarding, the responsibilities of this role give me valuable leadership, inter-personal, and administrative experience.

Manage CURE National's Twitter account and work directly with the ReThink Justice DC campaign by conducting interviews, writing blog posts, creating one pagers on the complex issues of our criminal justice system, gathering facts, developing their website, and attending meetings all geared towards ensuring a D.C. jail does not renew its contract with CCA in 2017.
