About Casey Berman

You will see from my experience below, though I’ve wandered across industries, roles, and technologies, my overall value proposition has only strengthened: I show you a better way to attain exponential business, career, or personal success.I am a “multipreneur.” Yes, that’s a real career! I am at the top of my game when I have multiple businesses and projects going at once. It keeps me excited, engaged, challenged, and enables me to serve:1. I help executives of Fortune 1000 companies and smaller start-ups identify their long-term goals, unlock trapped business value, establish customer centric business strategies, and overcome some of their most intractable issues. I do this in three ways:a. I was born to connect and engage with people. In user research discussions, my high emotional intelligence, subject matter expertise, and conversation management skills help me create deeply illuminating discussions with just about anyone.b. I distill information and nuance. I connect the dots between these nascent, disparate, and ambiguous concepts to support a story a stakeholder can quickly understand and act on.c. I enjoy storytelling - the act of translating this not-yet-complete narrative into a relevant strategy to the stakeholders’ needs - empowering timely decisions and creating room to make my clients even effective.2. I coach unhappy attorneys to leave the legal industry:I created the Leave Law Behind Coaching Course (https://www.leavelawbehind.com) so unhappy attorneys can overcome the roadblocks they have to leaving the legal industry, understand what they are good at, (and transition to their new dream job.>> So how are my multipreneurial interests intertwined? The answer you will see in my banner above: I help companies, executives and unhappy attorneys realize there is a better way. I work with fantastic professionals and guide them to the core of the issue that they want to overcome, either by:1. Empowering them to define and execute a new corporate strategy; or2. Enabling attorneys the self-permission to leave the profession towards a new dream careerFind out more: +1 415 613 7934.

  • Leave Law Behind
    Founder
Leave Law Behind Sep 2009 - Present
    Us
I was never meant to be a lawyer. In 2008, I began writing down some ideas about how lawyers could leave the legal industry and create a new career. In 2009, I was asked by my law school alma mater UC Hastings to present at a speaker series around “alternative, non-law careers”. I soon realized there was a gap in the market, and I intended to fill it. I launched the LeaveLawBehind.com blog which has become the leading resource to help unhappy attorneys find a new career. I’ve helped over 150 attorneys find a happy, well-paying career, grew organic traffic to over 3,000 consistent monthly visitors, and drove revenue to over six figures. In 2016, we productized our services and built the first of its kind coaching course for lawyers looking to leave the legal industry (think MasterClass for attorney-career-transition). There are over 300 members in this course, freeing unhappy lawyers from the grind of a job they don’t like, aren’t very good at, consider boring, and find no meaning in. Check out more at https://leavelawbehind.com/.And it’s not just me saying so – check out the feedback from graduates of the Leave Law Behind coaching course: - Litigator turned strategy consultant: “My experience with Leave Law Behind has been nothing short of outstanding.”- Construction defects litigator turned Senior Director of technology revenue operations: “I’ve truly found my unique genius and I owe a huge amount of my new-found success and happiness to Leave Law Behind.”- Estate planning attorney turned planned giving executive: “Leave Law Behind helped me be honest with myself and finally understand how being a lawyer wasn’t a fit for me.”- Criminal defense attorney turned VP Operations: “I look forward to going to work, and I look forward to my future. Thank you, Casey!”- Land use attorney turned Trust Officer at rising financial services firm: “I can’t thank you enough for this course and the community you’ve built! I’m so excited for my next career.”
  • Berman Capital, Llc
    Managing Director
Berman Capital, Llc May 2004 - Present
In 2004, I also began working with and advising our family run Investment Bank, Berman Capital (FINRA/SIPC) that helps business owners sell or recapitalize their business. The firm focuses on mergers and acquisitions, private equity and debt financings and advisory services for sellers and buyers in the emerging growth and middle market arena ($5-$150 million in enterprise value).I have worked on over 20 sell-side and buy-side M&A deals totaling over $100 million in valuation. On the “buy-side,” I research our private equity and corporate clients’ targeted markets and initiate contact with potential targets to narrow down acquisition candidates based on financial criteria such as revenue growth and EBITDA margins. I help recommend the best candidates, leading to additional due diligence on potential acquisitions. On the “sell-side”, I identify potential strategic acquirers and work with target’s management to create pro-forma financial projections for use in presentations and negotiations. We continue to this day helping business owners succeed at one of the most important decisions of their life: To further scale their business, or achieve the exit they've been dreaming about.
  • Slalom
    Senior Strategy Consultant
    Slalom Jul 2019 - Oct 2022
    Seattle, Wa, Us
I joined Slalom for the opportunity to grow its Customer Strategy and Experience team. I work closely with executives of the top technology, e-commerce and finance companies in the Bay Area and Silicon Valley, helping them map out their go-to-market strategies, determine competitive analysis, strategize urgent product development, or create a more customer centric messaging strategy.Executives come to me to solve their complex business problems.I helped a leading technology company simplify the process of creating and tracking large, complex sales deals. I drove the planning and execution of product roadmap and business metrics workshops, gathered business requirements, developed a change management strategy, and crafted an executive narrative for the C-Suite stakeholders.I led a transformative customer segmentation research project for a leading-edge, post-IPO cloud computing company as it moved up-market into enterprise organizations. We drove the company’s sales playbook, identifying the most promising areas to engage new prospects and create compelling content marketing assets. I’m proud to support the innovation, digital disruption and customer centricity strategies of some of the most cutting edge and forward-thinking companies on the globe. But don’t just take it from me:Client: “Everything we ask Casey to do is delivered top notch.”Fellow employee: “I’ve been impressed with his professionalism and his ability to synthesize and simplify technical and complex input and, most impactfully, his patience and poise.”Client: “Your collaboration has been invaluable in getting our project completed.”Client: “Your positive attitude and drive was contagious and invaluable in getting our team where we are today.”I love helping companies connect with their customers better, engage and empower their employees and fulfill what they wrote down years ago in their vision and mission statements.
  • Schireson
Director, Strategy, Research & Consulting Practice
    Schireson Nov 2015 - Jan 2019
    New York, Ny, Us
I returned to Schireson (now Known) for a very plum assignment: To lead a multi-year innovation and futurist research and strategy project for the CMO of one of the largest professional service companies on the planet, with over $40 billion in revenue and over 500,000 employees. My team drove a 4-year user insights study for our Chief Marketing Officer client and her global leadership, interviewing over 300 of their top C-Suite and SVP/VP executive clients, across 60+ Fortune 1000 accounts, to aid the firm in(i) understanding how its client users view, utilize and value its service offering, (ii) learning how its clients are fending off disruption and using new data-backed and automation-driven technologies and processes to succeed in the digital economy, and (iii) reinventing the company as a user-centric, innovative and digitally powered strategic advisor. This is where I first became a “C-Suite Whisperer”. Our research revolutionized how this global firm approached their clients on a day-to-day basis and how they planned to innovate in order to differentiate as they evolved.I helped transition the project responsibilities and direction to a new team and I left the company to take some well-deserved time off. The project has been a fantastic success, and I’m proud to say continues to this day!
  • Fileright.Com
    Chief Communications Officer
    Fileright.Com Jun 2013 - Oct 2015
I was then recruited to lead the business model and communications strategy for FileRight, the leader in innovative online software that helps users to independently complete their immigration paperwork and assemble their application for filing with the US government (think TurboTax for immigration).I led FileRight’s overall communications strategy, brand and 2C thought leadership to create compelling pieces that educated, empowered and entertained the company’s consumer audience. I was responsible for leading the development of messaging to “tell the company story” across all internal and external audiences.I took this opportunity to bring our message to the policy makers in Washington DC. I led the message development strategy for high-stakes executive presentations to Federal government officials, immigration attorney associations and immigrant advocacy groups. In fact, I presented in-person to President Obama’s Immigration Advisor at The White House and the Director of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to promote broader public/private sector immigration technology collaboration and innovation. I’m proud that our efforts helped convince the USCIS to further expand its digital initiatives and electronic form filing functionality. I oversaw all content marketing (blog, social, community building) and public relations efforts that contributed to a $3.6 million annual revenue run rate. I launched and grew the company’s Twitter and Facebook pages. I also designed, curated and segmented editorial content strategy to increase engagement and channel growth, which helped to secure national press coverage for FileRight, including The Washington Post, The Hill, Telemundo, The Latin Post and Terra.com.On the customer success front, I implemented “VIP” customer support program to proactively reach out to users and build community, significantly increasing FileRight’s Net Promoter Score.
  • Schireson Associates

    New York, Ny, Us
I was an early member of the Schireson Associates team (now Known), in the qualitative and strategy department based out of San Francisco. Most of my work was with Microsoft Corporation. I led domestic and international consumer and business market research, user experience and strategy projects from kick-off to design to implementation to final presentation, often managing several major project teams simultaneously. Projects drove the creation of a resonant value proposition, business case hypothesis, and go-to-market strategy. I traveled the globe, helping our clients break into markets as diverse as Germany, Bangladesh, Croatia, Malaysia, Peru, China, Brazil and Ghana. And of course, in almost all major US metro markets and Canada.I conducted numerous usability studies, intercept studies and market research projects. We uncovered innovation patterns and actionable business insights tied to meaningful end-user pain points and unmet needs and made strategic recommendations to key stakeholders.I was always called upon to evaluate client business models and served as primary thought leader in developing and recommending strategic adjustments to capitalize on vertical, horizontal and geographic market expansion opportunities. This helped clients interpret the forces of change in their market and create clarity, alignment, and momentum towards a path of growth and customer connection.I continually developed original content, frameworks, concepts, and vision in order to report the results and insights to stakeholders, enabling them to better understand and connect with their customers, markets, and the trends that impact business performance. And I always helped grow revenue by scoping new projects, building compelling proposals for potential new work and maintaining strong relationships with current client base.
