My name is Casey Robertson, and I am currently a second-year university student studying Bachelor of Sport Development at Griffith University on the Gold Coast. Sport is my passion and I want to be able to turn it into a job someday. When I was 7 my sporting journey began. I remember watching older girls doing Tae Kwon Do at my school and I thought to myself ‘I want to do be able to do that.’ I did martial arts up until I was 13 in high school because Tae Kwon Do didn’t sound like me and I wanted to focus on athletics and my throwing.For the past 10 years my love for athletics has only grown; between the competing, the training, and the coaching. I always love travelling for competitions, and the anticipation and adrenalin before going into the circle it’s just a part of me. I love the feeling when you get a new personal best or when your coach says, ‘that was better’ or ‘you’re improving so much.’ I have always enjoyed Athletics especially the throwing events and whilst at school I was lucky enough to compete at regional and state levels and set records in my regional area. I also was with my local Little Athletics club competing at regional and state levels. I am currently still at the club just competing with Queensland Athletics instead.Through doing Sport Development at Griffith University, I want to be able to give children in regional and rural areas that love doing athletics just as much as I do the same opportunities and experiences the children in urban and city areas get and give the throws and other field events the recognition they deserve because I believe they don’t get the same recognition as track athletes.In the future I would love my passion for sport and athletics to turn into my future career and to work with elite athletes and children to help them achieve their goals.
