As the owner of Forget Me Not Photobooths I controlled the branding of the business from logos and promotional materials to marketing efforts in the Anchorage area. I developed a strong following within my first three months, hired one part-time employee, and was booked every weekend, lighting up customers’ events with props and photo strips. The crowning achievement was when one of my clients’ photos made the front page of Reddit! I sold the business when I decided to move back to San Francisco and pursue my MBA at Presidio Graduate School.

Repsol YPF is a Spanish-based oil and gas company with more than 40,000 employees worldwide. In late 2011, Repsol began exploring for oil and gas in the remote regions of the Alaska North Slope. I was hired to open its Anchorage office, which served as the communication center of its remote operations. I wore many different hats: HR, operations, community relations and general office management. I coordinated employee and contractor travel from our Anchorage office to the North Slope, oversaw inventory of our emergency Arctic gear as well as billeting at our remote work locations. My favorite aspect of the job was engaging in community outreach, as I traveled with our Vice President of Public Affairs to the villages located next to our drilling sites. We listened to the feedback the local residents shared at community meetings as well as completing media training.

I also oversaw payroll, budgeting and accounting, as well as managed a required audit during the B-corp conversion. My previous experience at Wachovia working with retirement accounts and insurance came in very handy when I designed and implemented our 401(k) and insurance plan as well as maintained our state and federal filings. In 2010 I managed the company external audit, which passed with flying colors and enabled CouchSurfing to accept $7.6M in funding from Benchmark and Omidyar Networks.
