I am in charge of the Elementary Special Education Department and the self-contained room at my school. This is an exciting new role where I will be utilizing my organizational and leadership skills!

As a Building Substitute, I have to be flexible and ready to go into any classroom on a daily basis. When a teacher is out for a day, or a period of time, I go into the classroom and quickly study the lesson plan to make sure the students still get the educational experience that they should.To do this, I need to be able to adapt to the classroom needs, practice good classroom management skills, manage my time well, and improvising if things don't go according to the lesson plan.When there are no teachers out, I have a set schedule, which sends me to first, second, and third grade. I have small groups that I meet with and helping with day-to-day classroom needs. I often help out with morning check-in, copying, grading, creating activities, typing letters for parents, getting homework and folders together for students, etc. Since I am a licensed teacher, I am also trained to administer/supervise the ISTEP test. I am also qualified to administer the other reading/math assessments given throughout the school year.

As a tutor, I was in charge of 9-12 fourth grade students for 2 hours after school. During this time, we had a tutoring session, which could in math or reading. I had tutoring in reading on Mondays and Tuesdays and tutoring in math on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The tutoring session would last about 20-30 minutes. In order to make sure the students got the most out of the tutoring sessions, I would work with the teachers and make sure I was focusing on a topic that they were looking at in the classroom. Then, we would start on homework. During the homework time, I would go to each student and make sure they were understanding the material. If they didn't understand, or if they needed help, I would do a whole group example and then work with the student one-on-one. At the end of our homework time, I would put a check by the homework assignments finished at ASA and circle the ones that weren't completed in their assignment notebooks. This allowed both the parents and the teachers to see what the students were accomplishing in ASA.

As a Merchandise Execution Lead, I was a manager of a small group of associates. We mainly worked overnight from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. We had many duties that we were responsible for. We worked on pricing, new and clearance items. We were responsible for keeping the floor organized and neat. This also included planning for and unloading trucks carrying new merchandise. During my last few months at JCPenney, we were under construction, setting up new shops. The floor had to be cleared of any equipment and clothing before construction began, which is where my team came into play. We also had to follow set plans to put the clothing and equipment back when construction for the shop was finished. The most important job my team had was customer service. We may not have had contact with a lot of customers, but if we didn't do our jobs in pricing, organizing, and restocking, our customer satisfaction ratings would be very low.
