Substitute Teacher
Despite a brief hiatus due to covid 19, I consistently worked as a substitute teacher in the Siskiyou Unified School District. During this time I worked in multiple schools across the area covering all grade levels. My work included following lesson plans and instructions provided by the head teacher and easily improvising helpful and educational activities when necessary. Furthermore, I work hard to maintain order and respect within the classroom in a calm and polite manner while encouraging reciprocal behavior in students.
Ski Instructor
There are three types of learning abilities, auditory, visual, and kinesthetic, and working as a ski instructor has tested my ability to communicate using all three. Every day I work hard to make the people who attend my lessons successful skiers by any means necessary. To do this I have learned how to communicate and teach the actions taken to be a competent skier in dozens of ways, from describing and demonstrating basic actions, to detailing the specific muscles used to enact the perfect wedge stop, or the weight and directions to move one's body when linking turns. Working with guests as young as six years old to first time skiers in their sixties while finding and communicating an individualized learning style can be a challenge, however I make it my personal goal to make them confident, strong, and capable on their skis, and take pride every day that goal is met.
Intern
Answering phones builds character, and anyone who has worked at a congressional office will agree. Sometimes people are experiencing personal trauma or are angry with the political system, and they take it out on the poor intern on the other end of the line. I always was able to take it with a smile, and the kind constituents who would also call certainly helped. Working on Capitol Hill quickly taught me the majority of our perceptions of the government are wrong. There is so much process and effort put into every aspect into the continuous building and shaping of our federal government. My favorite part about interning with Congressman LaMalfa in Washington, D.C. was experiencing and meeting all of the people who put massive amounts of effort into the United States of America -- whether it by Members of Congress, their teams, committee teams, think tankers, or the journalists who report on it. The constant ebb and flow of DC is something everyone should experience at least once.
Ucsb Director Of Communications
As Communications Director of the UCSB College Republicans I had two goals for our club: to assist in growing our membership and expand our voice on campus. By using weekly advertisement and table sessions, social media, weekend group socials, and regular meetings the club was able to more than double its membership and spread a conservative message on campus.
News Writer Intern
My internship with One America News Network ignited my passion to explore news and politics. The cultural and political shifts occurring not just in the United States, but across the world, were already peaking my interest prior to starting the internship. However, the opportunity to work with OANN allowed me to explore these shifts in depth while also pursuing and improving one of my very favorite activities: writing. Throughout the internship I would research then communicate topics into conversational language while putting all necessary information into less then 35 second long segments for the anchors to read on television. On other occasions I would get to write packages, where I would extensively research a subject and right a less then 2:30 minute long segment that would include soundbites from outside sources. I would then have the opportunity to perform the voice tracking myself and put it on air. Creating these packages is one of the main opportunities that has inspired me to explore television further; as I am able to research, write, record, and offer new ideas and perspectives to people across the United States.
Editor
Being the Editor at the Tab UCSB was a challenging and incredible opportunity. When I started I was the only woman on board; meaning I was the editor, writer, photographer, social media editor, and everything else that goes into making a publication successful. However, by the end of the school year I built a team of writers, photographers, and contributors. My favorite part of working with The Tab was the creative license to think outside of the box when it comes to approaching a story. For example, when covering the Thomas Fire, I was wracking my brain on how to make our story stand out as every publication across the United States was covering what was then the largest fire in California State history. My solution was to come up with a 'Fire' Playlist, where every song had to do with smoke, ashes, sparks, or fire and to include it with the story. It was widely received and enjoyed within the UCSB community as it made a bit of light humor to an otherwise disastrous situation while still effectively communicating the current news and information.
Reporter
Editorial, Website, And Social Media Intern
I was an intern for the UCSB Humanities and Fine Arts Department for one quarter, where I worked closely with my mentor Nomi Morris in developing and perfecting my writing, creating social media posts on multiple platforms, growing our social media following, and website design.
