I was born in Southern Utah and raised on a ranch. It was not uncommon for me to ride my horse to school and I worked many long days with my dad hauling hay, packing deer and elk off the mountain, moving cattle, etc. I learned I could not go home until the work was done, to get back on after getting bucked off, the animals eat first and to take pride in my work. My parents had one rule for us growing up: "Be where you're supposed to be, doing what you're supposed to be doing, when you're supposed to be doing it." I have lived by this principle my entire life and it has done nothing but serve me well.When I was 5 my dad sat me down and explained what college was and that he and my mother were not going to pay for my education. He noticed I had a skill for sports and taught my what a scholarship was and that if I put in a lot of effective work, that I could get one that would pay for my education. I was a 3 sport athlete in high school. I didn't have a key and was underage so I often snuck into our local church building so that I could put up shots while my parents were asleep so I would not get in trouble. My hard work paid off and I was able to graduate with my bachelors debt-free playing DII basketball at Westminster College.I knew I also wanted to get my Masters but did not want to pay for it. So, I majored in something I loved doing that would pay for me to go to school: Math. I TA'd for Calculus 1 my 2 years at Utah State and I loved it! I loved being to explain concepts simply and watch the light bulb go off in my students' heads.I graduated in May of 2022 with a 3.7 GPA with my MS in Industrial Mathematics. My research included using Natural Language Processing (math on words) to predict when suicidal events would happen. I was successful in doing so and take great pride in how far I have come in my mathematics/data science career.Currently I work for Home Depot as a data scientist and I love it! It’s Home Depot or bust in my family when it comes to tools and construction materials so I have loved working for a company that I love shopping at.
