Having taught in a public university, private university, and in a community college and worked with students in a variety of contexts-- classrooms, writing centers, internship sites, community projects, and ESL support services-- I have a plethora of experience working with diverse students and in a myriad of genres of communication. In addition to classes in composition, rhetoric, literacy studies, and popular culture, I have also developed service learning and grant-distributing courses. Aside from my work in the classroom, I’ve worked as a director of sales and marketing for a major hotel firm, as a Writing Program and Service Learning Director, as an editor for a literary journal, as a freelance grant writer, as a grant advisor, and as a volunteer for multiple nonprofit organizations. I’ve engaged in text-based and ethnographic research and have published scholarship, poetry, reviews, and creative non-fiction. In addition to writing in multiple genres, in my research I explore how individuals gain literacy skills, as well as how they adapt the rhetorical practices available to them to enter conversations where access has traditionally been denied them.
