As a Prior Authorization Pharmacist, I review prior-authorization requests and chart notes from physicians across pharmacy and medical benefits for multiple lines of business: Ohio and Indiana Medicaid as well as Ohio, Indiana, West Virginia and Kentucky Marketplace. I recommend lower-cost alternatives per formulary requirements and review traditional and specialty medications, including injectables, partnering closely with the formulary department in regards to product shortages and availability.

Upon earning my degree and passing my boards, I became a full-time pharmacist with Rite Aid and transferred locations.My general scope included interacting with patients and providers, counseling patients on prescription and over-the-counter medications, filling and dispensing medications, managing inventory level and ordering, contacting insurance companies, performing prescription transfers, compounding, scheduling technicians and interviewing technician candidates. However, in addition to the day-to-day responsibilities of running the pharmacy, a few additional highlights include that I: - Continuously served as preceptor for ~20 IPPE and APPE students from local universities, working with each student to incorporate and accomplish his/hers/their goals and objectives. - Provided medication therapy management counseling to patients, including a full medication review to check for adherence.- Participated in (and orchestrated some local) immunization clinics on days off, traveling throughout Northwest Ohio to immunize 20-150 individuals per clinic. Subsequently managed paperwork, billing, etc.
