Cassandra "Sandy" Alston-Childs is a driven and compassionate leader. Her philosophy is being Firm, Focused, Fair and Fun. She is a former D1 college athlete and has over 35 years of experience in engineering, general management, operations, strategy, and diversity. Sandy is currently VP Corporate Services at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan where she oversees Facilities, Real Estate, Security and Corporate Services such as EH&S/Print/Mail/Records & Warehousing/AV/Food Service. She was previously the Chief Operating Officer for Walker-Miller Energy Services. Prior, Sandy was the Chief Operating Officer for Bridgewater Interiors, an automotive manufacturing joint venture partnership with Adient (formerly Johnson Controls). In this role, she oversaw Operations, New Product Launch, Human Resources and Financial performance of the Bridgewater partnership which provides Just-In-Time (JIT) automotive seat assembly.Her previous business unit roles at Johnson Controls include Vice President Strategy, Communications, and Government & Environmental Affairs and Vice President of Facilities Center of Excellence (COE) Operations. Sandy also held a corporate role leading Global Diversity. Sandy began her career as a plant engineer for ExxonMobil in Baytown, TX advancing to Operations Coordinator before pursuing graduate school. Next roles included Operations Consultant with Booz Allen & Hamilton and Sr. Director Operations at Enron Energy Services before joining Johnson Controls.In the community, Sandy was Board Vice Chair for the Michigan Roundtable for Diversity & Inclusion (MRDI) and is a life member of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). Sandy is a co-founder & Past Chairman for the NSBE Professionals Houston Chapter & has served on the National Board. She currently serves on the Purdue University Athletic Advisory Council and received a 2017 Purdue Outstanding Mechanical Engineer Award. She was additionally a 2018 Michigan Chronicle Women of Excellence honoree.While at Purdue, Sandy was captain on the Women’s Basketball team. She additionally holds an MBA from Northwestern University.
