The NC Zoo Animal Science camps are open to middle-school-aged and high-school-aged students who have an interest in conservation and research. The camp is a one-night sleep away camp. As a counselor, I help organize activities to educate the students on field research techniques and behind the scenes tours of animal husbandry at the zoo. We teach students how to set up tents and the importance of leaving no trace when staying in natural spaces.

Responsible for research projects, monthly reports, final report, and presentation. Data collection using Zoomonitor, data management using Zoomonitor, Excel, and R, and data analysis using R. My projects focused on 1) the effects of variable shifting schedules on polar bear stereotypic behaviors, 2) the effects of variable feeding schedules on the occurrence of pacing in African lions, and 3) the effects of a novel substrate on the overnight behaviors of African elephants in the over-wintering barn
