Worked on the Assist/Notary application which was built with Ruby on Rails and React/Redux, and interfaced with DocuSign to provide an interactive signing experience. From April-June 2020 this position was part of LiveOak Technologies until we were acquired by DocuSign (combined here for simplicity).+ Designed and implemented a standardized and structured logger for the backend to provide context and telemetry data for our logs. This was part of a broader effort to bring the observability and monitoring standards of the Assist application inline with the larger DocuSign organization.+ Worked on an interim solution for unblocking engineers during our weekly releases using a new staging environment.+ Designed a plan for transitioning the application to be a SPA, which we are currently delivering on.+ Focused on highlighting inefficiencies in our codebase to reduce our loading time through caching, asynchronously loading, optimizing database queries, and working towards a static front end.+ Continually strove to reduce our front end complexity, get onto DocuSign’s shared UI framework, convert class components into functional Typescript components, and enforce front end testing best practices, especially as one of the few engineers on the team with extensive front end experience.

Worked on the checkout page UI team, which included a React front-end, and a node.js/hapi.js server layer for orchestrating backend services with GraphQL.+ Owned and organized an overhaul of the UI for the 2019 Vrbo rebrand, which included replacing custom components with shared components, removing custom css, and in general cleaning up a lot of tech debt. Received a “Night on the Town” award for making this process smooth, and exceeding expectations in how much was accomplished.+ Developed backend frameworks for handling diverse apis to streamline responses to the client, and also for standardizing our logging output across the backend so that logs were more searchable, aggregatable, and consistent.+ Led the team on implementing Redux into the codebase (previously using a Backbone model inside of React.)+ Strong proponent of documenting tech debt and fought to continually make this a priority for the team.

Worked as part of a team that built highly custom front end projects (using Backbone.js) for customers who were looking for more control over Spredfast’s Experiences platform.+ Built internal dashboards for displaying social media statistics in interesting and meaningful ways using D3. Focused on efficiency because of the long life of the project, volume of requests, and animations (combining CSS and D3) for a polished experience.+ Created a visualization with an editorial feel which displayed not only the social media networks that Spredfast supports (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), but also consumed RSS feeds from Tumblr, Pinterest, and the client’s blog. Focused on meeting the customer’s strict requirements regarding how they wanted their content displayed while making it look effortless.+ Built a page for collecting votes via Twitter and displaying real time leaderboards. This project included different phases which needed to be constant across every user on the page and transition at exactly the same time to maintain the integrity of the vote.+ Helped lead a transition to Agile and focused on defining a strict process through JIRA so that projects were easier to maintain and to increase communication throughout the team.

Worked on both the front end and back end teams behind Offers.com.+ Transitioned an aging CMS built with PHP and Zend Framework into a Backbone.js app built on top of an API.+ Created a tool for uploading bulk content updates through .csv files - traditionally something that was done manually. Focused on creating something that would fail gracefully in the event of bad input, and would run in the background since they could be very time consuming.+ Owned a complete overhaul of the Offers.com blog which included cleaning up a lot of technical debt. Also overhauled how we processed blog post text to be more efficient and allow for more custom formatting for our editorial team. Focused on DRY programming as much as possible to reduce the risk of unmaintained code and falling back into technical debt.

Developed from concept to production an internal tool using Ruby on Rails. Assumed a product management position on this project by meeting with prospective users to determine how to best meet their needs, built the requirements and release schedule from this research, and kept open communication with all the shareholders of the project. A large focus of this project was user experience and a lot of time was spent providing meaningful reporting and error messaging so that the tool would be easy to use.

+ Developed from concept to production both Facebook Connect and Twitter applications as special projects to help promote Offers.com in social networks+ Created additional Facebook page applications to increase presence of the Offers.com fan page.+ Worked with various APIs including Google Maps, Facebook, Twitter, MailChimp, and SendGrid.
