I started my 22yr career as a marine biologist researching the reproduction of sardines (yes, really…!). Though an exciting topic for some, I couldn’t wait for research results to have an impact on how a fishery is managed and, ultimately, on people’s lives. Marine sustainability, public policy and ocean governance have been the focus of my work ever since – in academia, in private/public/philanthropic sectors, and now in the non-profit sector. Specialties:• making wise use of scientific evidence to inform policy• connecting people• communicating with different audiences

The fieldwork experience gained during the TRANSMAP project was essential to conduct fieldwork just for my thesis, by myself, for 4 months. My supervisors were Prof. José Guerreiro (Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon) and Prof. Aldo Chircop (Dalhousie Law School; Marine and Environmental Law Institute). My thesis is available here: http://repositorio.ul.pt/handle/10451/4691
