About Cate Larsen

I am a geology communicator utilizing the connective power of the internet to bring geology education to the masses. Since graduating with my B.S. in 2020, I've been following my love of geology and passion for teaching by sharing my knowledge with the world through social media, virtual and in-person presentations, and field experiences. In 2023, I started the collective AllGneiss Communications to empower and give agency to my fellow geo-communicators.Although my current focus is on growing my career in geo-communication, I still have an interest in research and my long-term goals include attending graduate school to study Martian sedimentary processes. Through my work, I hope to make connections with researchers with whom I can learn and collaborate in the future.

As a geo-communicator, I utilize my knowledge as a geologist along with my skills and passion for teaching others. By harnessing the connective power of the internet, I'm able to bring geoscience to the masses with things like social media, podcasts, and virtual experiences. In person at schools, libraries, and conferences, I find myself speaking to audiences ranging from kindergarteners to retirees. The topics I speak on include geology concepts as well as geo-communication specifically, the latter with a goal to strengthen the communication skills of other geoscience professionals.Much of my work revolves around creating content for social media that both catches attention and effectively educates viewers of all ages about different aspects of geology. I'm known online as @GroovyGeologist where on multiple platforms, I share fun content with trending themes, informative posts about geologic concepts (and misconceptions), and immersive videos explaining and showing real-world examples while out in the field.
