At Cate Ward Nutrition, I work with both individuals as a dietitian and with businesses through corporate consulting.

Provided medical nutritional therapy and nutrition education to patients at UCSF Medical Center, ranging from critical care to outpatient. Developed individualized nutrition interventions for patients based on interpretation of patient labs, assessment of patient intake, and analyzing patient’s physiological state. Measured greenhouse gas contributions of patient menu items and engineered a method to track CO2 emissions.

Dissertation in the laboratory of Dr. Marc Hellerstein, Department of Nutritional Sciences & Toxicology. In this role, I developed and carried out my own research in the lab of Dr. Marc Hellerstein, collaborating closely with the lab of my co-mentor, Dr. Andrew Dillin, culminating in 3 first author publications and 7 collaborations. I led a team of undergraduate students in the laboratory (4 at a time; 8 total). My research applied isotopic labeling and mass spectrometry techniques to study metabolic processes in vivo through which I measured both de novo lipogenesis and nascent protein synthesis in mouse models of altered proteostasis to elucidate age and diet induced perturbations in ER stress response. In addition to my research in the lab, I led student journal club to discuss both current literature in the field and key past scientific experiments and designed, launched, and maintained laboratory website.

Taught 100+ student courses in Human Nutrition, Food Science, Community Nutrition, and Food Systems Management. Built lesson plans, led lectures, wrote and graded exams and assignments, provided extensive mentorship.

Led a team of 15 graduate students. Planned lessons, coordinated classroom visits with teachers, and organized team meetings to practice and prepare for in classroom experiences. In the classroom, led science experiments with groups of ~30 students. As a member of the campus-wide steering-committee, guided future directions of the program and active in recruiting volunteers.

As a member of the molecular biology team, independently conducted biochemistry experiments in yeast, including the signature genetic editing technique patented by the company. I carried out several individual projects from start to finish, significantly improving production efficiency of several commercial oil products by optimizing strain development.

Senior Research Thesis in the laboratory of Dr. Jennifer Doudna, Departments of Molecular and Cell Biology and Chemistry. Co-authored a publication on my research elucidating the interaction of human proteins involved in microRNA production. Purified proteins for experimentation and independently conducted an array of biochemistry experiments.

Facilitated monthly in-services and meetings for a staff of fifty lifeguards, oversaw maintenance of pool facilities, ensured safety of all patrons as a first responder. Designed lesson plans, scheduled, and instructed both children’s and adult private and group swim lessons.
