In this role, I developed and carried out my own research in the lab of Dr. Marc Hellerstein, collaborating closely with the lab of my co-mentor, Dr. Andrew Dillin, culminating in 3 first author publications and 7 collaborations. I led a team of undergraduate students in the laboratory (4 at a time; 8 total). My research applied isotopic labeling and mass spectrometry techniques to study metabolic processes in vivo through which I measured both de novo lipogenesis and nascent protein synthesis in mouse models of altered proteostasis to elucidate age and diet induced perturbations in ER stress response. In addition to my research in the lab, I led student journal club to discuss both current literature in the field and key past scientific experiments and designed, launched, and maintained laboratory website.
