About Jeff Cates

My rich technical experience includes over 22 years of developing BI solutions using the Microsoft BI stack. I have deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server having worked in all versions of the product from Microsoft SQL Server 6.5 to Microsoft SQL Server 2019. My broad experience in designing and implementing multi-dimensional databases dates to Analysis Services 2000 through all iterations of the product as it has transformed into Azure Tabular Analysis Services.I have worked in all major versions of Microsoft’s ETL toolset from the early days of DTS to current on-premises SSIS and ADF. This experience includes implementing custom data transformations, complex C# script tasks, API and legacy integrations, as well as integrations with Oracle OAC.I have implemented visualizations in nearly every major toolset that integrates with Analysis Services, from prominent players like Tableau and Power BI, to obscure and obsolete products like Tibco, Performance Point, Panorama, and AlphaBlox.My rich experience in the BI space has been fortified with a long history of traditional software development in all languages of significance including C, C++, C#, Python, PHP, Objective C, Java, T-SQL, MDX, DAX, VB, and VB.Net. As a software developer, I have written and released packaged products and custom solutions for a wide range of business problems and interests. These topics range from highly specialized psychological modeling to iPhone games and iPad applications.
