Cath Murphy completed a Grad Dip in Animation at VCA Film School in 1998- her student film Like Drowning won the C. Robert Fine Scholarship for Best Script from a Graduating student and the Erwin Rado award for Special Achievement in film. Cath’s shorts have screened at many high profile film festivals internationally and bought by local and international broadcasters including the ABC, SBS, Canal+ and Sogecable. Her animations have won numerous awards for Writing, Directing and Visual Effects and as a producer Cath has been funded by state and federal film funding agencies and numerous Philanthropic organizations. Cath has worked as a registered nurse in mental health for many years and in 2009 Cath initiated the Rural Animation Project offering animation as an engagement and alternative learning experience to youth in regional Victoria. Animations created on the project have won Best Middle School Animation and nominated for Best Short Doco, Best Primary Animation and in 2022 Best Senior Secondary Animation at the ATOM awards.In 2020 Cath opened Pollyannafilms an animation house in Melbourne. Pollyannafilms offers entry level animation traineeships on professional films to marginalised people, in particular older women.Pollyannafilms is in production on its animated documentary series Socially Sanctioned- the first episode of the series White Goods screened in the Best of Docs Flickerfest 2021, was nominated for Best Animation at the 2021 St Kilda Film Festival and won a 2022 Incinerator Social Impact award. Pollyanna films is currently in production on its first feature documentary Complicit.
