Joint Patient and Public Involvement Panel Member - Panel member of the Joint Patient and Public Involvement Panel for the Prevention and Population and Early Detection and Diagnosis Research Committees. These funding committees support research that is aligned with CRUKs research strategy. As a panel member I provide a non experts perspective and experience on funding applications to help CRUK make relevant and timely research funding decisions.

I led the strategic and operational design and decisions regarding the overall management of the Department (100 staff, £11 million budget, 600 students) including staff and student recruitment, staff management and HR processes, promotions, academic planning and budget reporting and setting. Sat on the Faculty of Engineering Executive Board and reported to the PVC of Faculty of Engineering.

I was responsible for developing and engendering the Departmental research strategy (ca. 40 academics) to maximise performance in terms of income (ca. £5million), outputs, impact and quality. My interventions led to a 25% increase in research income in 1 year, and an enhanced portfolio of RCUK, EU and Industry funding.

My role was to strategically develop, deliver and communicate the Department’s priorities of growth (e.g. in student numbers (u/grad, post/grad taught and PGR research)). Took bold decision to increase Departmental undergraduate A-level requirement which doubled what they were before the change, without comprising quality.

My role was to deliver the Faculty of Engineering's priorities in terms of recruitment, progression and quality of postgraduate research (PGR) students. The cohort of PGR students was approximately 600. Shaped and implemented a new initiative, which significantly overhauled the provision of research training for PGR students as part of the University wide PGR Strategy. At that time it was ca 2700 students.
