Promoted to Research Assistant at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR) AIDS and Cancer Virus Program (ACVP) working in the Tissue Analysis Core (TAC) while pursuing graduate schooling. Prepared and delivered hybrid on-site and virtual lab courses at the Coad Science Building for Introductory Biology.

Biomedical research data analysis using GIMM software, Excel, and GraphPad InStat software. Assist the graduate student in experiments including animal care and use, glucose tests, preparing buffers and reagents, immunohistochemistry, dissections, tissue preparations, whole mount preparations, and fluorescence microscopy. Presented study and results at University of Idaho student expositions (College of Science Expo Fall 2014, Bio Symposium Spring 2015). Designed and carried out a 10-week research project supervised by a faculty mentor. Studied the effects of a high-fat-diet on the enteric nervous system using a mouse model to study GI dysfunction resulting from Type 2 Diabetes. Utilized immunohistochemistry, dissections, gastrointestinal motility assays, dimensional analysis, and preparing buffers and reagents. Troubleshooting new protocol for immunostaining. Results were presented in August at the Idaho INBRE Annual Research Conference.

Industry internship with a water quality testing laboratory. Followed State-regulated methods for testing and analysis of public and private water systems, including waste water and drinking water. Preparation, maintenance and use of AA3 automatic analyzer for phosphates and nitrates, FOG machine, chlorine colorimeter, turbidity meter, pH meter, conductivity meter, pipettes, scales, autoclaves, incubators, aseptic techniques, stock cultures of indicator species of microbes, microbiology media. Participated in regular QC/QA protocols and reporting. Reported, checked, and approved results of microbiology tests, bacterial load assessment including total coliforms and E.coli, fecal microbe tests, HPC.

Studied the general health of Fernan Lake in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Designed and carried out a 10-week research project supervised by a faculty mentor. Unbiased use of the scientific method, human relations: obtaining landowner permissions to test on private properties, preliminary research and analysis, aseptic technique in the collection and testing of samples on site and in the lab, organization of data, data analysis, and presentation of research at the Idaho INBRE Conference. Tests included nitrates, phosphates, pH, turbidity, temperature, oxygen, and bacterial load assessment including total coliforms and E.coli.
