    The Alexa AI team in Cambridge UK invents foundational machine learning technologies to build intelligent conversational interfaces for a multitude of devices, applications, languages, and environments. We work on building the technology that enables automatic speech recognition (ASR) and natural language understanding (NLU) behind Amazon’s Alexa, the cloud-based voice service that powers Echo and other Amazon devices. The team was responsible for bringing Alexa to Amazon FireTV and the Fire tablet, and for expanding Amazon’s voice technology outside of the US. Our research looks at scaling up machine learning systems to new languages and devices, and supporting new features and locales for which we have limited data. We partner closely with science, engineering and product teams in Aachen, Boston and Sunnyvale, working on real customer data to ensure that the technology we develop has real benefit for Amazon’s customers.
