Catherine R. Cabrera is Assistant Group Leader of Group 48, Bioengineering Systems and Technologies, at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. She received her B.A. degrees in Biochemistry and Chemical Engineering from Rice University and her Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of Washington. Dr. Cabrera joined MIT LL in 2002, initially working on hardware and software development for biowarfare agent ID, particularly for field-forward applications. In 2010, Dr. Cabrera was promoted to Assistant Group Leader and became part of the team leading the Laboratory’s efforts to expand biomedical R&D and is the current Lead of the Biomedical Line. As the Biomed Line Lead, Dr. Cabrera’s mission is to shape and manage internal R&D funding focused on bioscience innovation in support of Lincoln’s mission of technology development for national security. Dr. Cabrera currently oversees a diverse portfolio of projects, which include molecular biomarkers for heath and performance, engineered biological systems, early warning of infection, microbiome RDT&E, and advanced DNA forensics.
