The Law Society of British Columbia regulates lawyers in the public interest by ensuring that the people of BC are served by lawyers who meet high standards of learning, competence and professional conduct. The Law Society’s Tribunal conducts hearings to adjudicate allegations of professional misconduct and impose appropriate sanctions, assess character and fitness of applicants for admission or reinstatement, and to conduct review hearings of hearing panel decisions. As an appointed representative, I adjudicate or review cases with elected Benchers and non-lawyer representatives.

At the UBC Allard Faculty of Law, I teach upper level business law courses. From its inception in 2015, I co-developed the Business Law Clinical, and in 2020 I began teaching the Corporate Solicitor’s Workshop. In 2020, I was awarded the Adam Albright Award for Teaching Excellence for an Adjunct Professor. My research interests are in the intersection of land use planning and inequity of policy structures, with a current research interest in “company towns”, communities owned and administered by an industrial employer.

As a commercial leasing lawyer in my private consulting practice, I provide select national clients with specialized leasing advice and negotiations. Under the banner of Real Estate Legal Services (RELS), I give legal advice to in-house real estate managers, draft offers to lease and lease documents, and represent clients to negotiate property transactions. With a focus on multi-unit convenience store, specialty grocery retail, and restaurant and hotel portfolios, I work closely with senior leadership teams often in concert with their in-house legal departments to deliver leasing and property expertise on a timely basis.
