The Sumners Scholarship is a merit-based program. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic excellence, a sense of civic responsibility, and the potential for leadership.Aligned with its purpose, the Sumners Foundation enhances the traits and skills of Sumners Scholars through unique educational experiences. Scholars receive special access to Foundation-sponsored programs, including private lectures, public policy and leadership events, and various educational and internship opportunities. The Foundation expects Scholars to understand and appreciate America's representative democracy, become politically informed, actively participate in the democratic process at all levels, honor civic responsibilities by contributing to the community, and assist the Foundation in fulfilling its charitable mission.

The University Scholar is a student-edited journal of scholarly essays short stories, poems, and visual artwork by UD undergraduates. It is sponsored by the English Department and the University's chapter of the national Phi Beta Kappa liberal arts honor society.

During the fall semester, interns assist with recruitment by supporting counselors through marketing techniques and office tasks, planning and organizing travel, and contacting prospective students. They attend local college fairs and handle call nights and data entry. Interns engage with applicants via phone, email, chats, and letters, helping them complete applications and enroll at UD.

The Summer Fellowship combines rigorous study of political thought and public policy in six, week-long courses led by master teachers, policy workshops directed by field experts and experienced government officials, and a distinguished speaker series of exemplary figures from public life.
