The site of Shechem (Tell Balatah) was excavated in field seasons held in the late 1950's, the 1960's and follow-up seasons in the 1970's. The importance of this Central Hill Country site, revealed through ancient Egyptian texts (Amarna Letters) and the Old Testament (Judges), situated it on the crossroads of a major trade route through the southern Levant. The publication of Volume V, presents the Late Bronze Age pottery from Field XIII within its technological, social and political context and contributes to our knowledge of cultural interaction through ceramic manufacturing techniques.
