Teaching CSI105 Computing and Information (C&I)Course Description:C&I is a broad introduction to Computer Science (CS), Information Studies (IS), Informatics (INF), and related disciplines. All of these fields study various aspects of information and the modern digital computer. Students in C&I learn the basics of all three core areas. Among the central topics of this course, students learn basic computer programming, as understanding how computers work is essential to understanding their use across all of the disciplines in C&I. The three key themes covered are: programming, the Internet and data.

President’s Forum on Health Data AnalyticsFebruary 24, 20158am-12:30pmD’Ambra Auditorium, UAlbany Life Sciences Research BuildingThe need for data scientists focusing on health data analytics is growing like never before. With ever-greater amounts of data available thanks in part to electronic health records and a growing insured population under the Affordable Care Act of 2010, health data analytics are increasingly in demand to help healthcare providers, insurers, and the general public assure that they get the best quality, most effective healthcare at the least possible cost. Health data analytics can be used for a variety of purposes, such as cutting down on administrative costs, better coordinating care of patients, clinical decision support, and improved patient wellness. Market research conducted by firm Frost & Sullivan projects the usage of advanced health data analytics solutions in hospitals will increase to 50% adoption in 2016, up from 10% adoption in 2011. Building on the unique and particular strengths of the University at Albany in the fields of advanced data analytics, public health, and public policy, the President’s Forum on Health Data Analytics will bring together members of the UAlbany community and industry and government partners with a set of invited speakers and panelists. Invited talks and panels will focus on exemplars in creating an environment that enables partnerships and programs around health data analytics; opportunities for forging new partnerships and building on strong partnerships that already exist in new and dynamic ways; and developing curricula to train the data scientists of tomorrow to navigate rapidly-changing healthcare policy and practice.

The purposes of SIG/III are a) to promote better awareness among ASIS&T members and information professionals of the importance of international cooperation; b) to facilitate and enhance better communication and interaction among ASIS&T members and their foreign colleagues on information issues; and c) to provide a forum for exploring and discussing international information issues and problems. SIG/III membership includes most non-U.S. ASIS&T members and a true cross-section of U.S. ASIS&T members.

The New York State's inaugural health data event. A week long event that explores the creative use of technology and data to solve the challenges of tomorrow. • Designed and conducted a Wizard-of-Oz study of spoken language recognition interface to investigate the efficacy and usability of spoken and gestural interaction with information systems; • Designed numerous factual, interpretive, and exploratory tasks that were used in "Speak To Me" experiments to test information retrieval systems, IMLS funded project; Conducted experiments with 25 pilots; • Trained additional experimenters for the project. • Evaluated prototype interface/systems, employed heuristic evaluation and cognitive walkthrough methods; • Conducted research and wrote literature reviews on several areas of research within the field of Human Computer Interaction; • Conducted pilot studies for data collection in a project involving medical queries; Created tutorials for prototype interfaces for subjects in experiment. Conducted and ran experiments with 48 subjects in medical domain user study
