With ever-greater amounts of data available thanks in part to electronic health records and a growing insured population under the Affordable Care Act of 2010, health data analytics are increasingly in demand to help healthcare providers, insurers, and the general public assure that they get the best quality, most effective healthcare at the least possible cost. Health data analytics can be used for a variety of purposes, such as cutting down on administrative costs, better coordinating care of patients, clinical decision support, and improved patient wellness. Market research conducted by firm Frost & Sullivan projects the usage of advanced health data analytics solutions in hospitals will increase to 50% adoption in 2016, up from 10% adoption in 2011. Building on the unique and particular strengths of the University at Albany in the fields of advanced data analytics, public health, and public policy, the President’s Forum on Health Data Analytics will bring together members of the UAlbany community and industry and government partners with a set of invited speakers and panelists. Invited talks and panels will focus on exemplars in creating an environment that enables partnerships and programs around health data analytics; opportunities for forging new partnerships and building on strong partnerships that already exist in new and dynamic ways; and developing curricula to train the data scientists of tomorrow to navigate rapidly-changing healthcare policy and practice.
