For 6 weeks, I helped in delivering a research project which used functional Near‑InfraRed Spectroscopy (fNIRS) on children aged 4‑8 years to compare child brain activity when playing with dolls and with tablets. I played a large part in the recruitment of families, and acted as either the primary (sitting with the child to deploy the protocol) or secondary (recording and running the 'background' tasks) experimenter on a near daily basis. Over my placement year, which was integrated into my degree programme, I worked as part of a small team to design and implement a weight‑loss app for those with an overweight BMI struggling with traditional weight-loss methods, involving a lot of communication with the app developers.
