I was fortunate to have the opportunity to conduct high-level research on a groundbreaking study spearheaded by the School of Information at the University of Michigan. During this short-term position, I was responsible for interviewing participants and coding their actions, pain points, and comments. I summarized results for project leaders, met frequently with the team to review results, adjusted interview plans as needed, and completed work on aggressive deadlines. I was honored to be hired for this position, as I developed new skills while utilizing my previous UX experience and education.

Working as a leader for the 1Cademy UX Research team has given me valuable skills in time management, communication, and project management. I am in charge of the hiring process for all interns which includes keeping the Handshake posting up to date, reviewing applications, answering incoming inquiries, and onboarding new interns. I also plan meetings that will keep interns engaged and help them learn about UX Research methods, while keeping a Coda team base up-to-date with helpful resources, meeting notes and agendas, and recommended readings. In addition to the research team, I am leading the documentation team that meets regularly to create tutorial videos and improve the onboarding process for all interns - currently, we are creating a process through Qualtrics to introduce interns to the 1Cademy team.

1Cademy is a collaborative and interdisciplinary online learning platform developed at the University of Michigan School of Information by a PhD student. As an intern, I research collaborative online environments, read scholarly works on this subject and utilize 1Cademy to summarize and present findings to the UX team. I also conduct user interviews to gain insight into what users want from the platform and work with the team to find options to improve user experience.

Working at Clearlink, I was able to broaden my skills in data analysis and website auditing. One of my biggest projects over the internship was taking data and creating the motivations, frustrations, behaviors, and traits of 4 user personas for one of Clearlink’s websites. Additionally, I assisted the content strategy team with website auditing. I gained a good deal of experience in WordPress and Elementor while updating website pages and making sure important pages followed each website’s style guide and best UX practices. My last project of the summer was creating a learning and development document for the team that would plan out their future team development workshops. This document had everything from best accessibility practices, to data visualization and analysis methods, to survey writing best practices and other UX research methods.

While interning at Keck Media, my focus was managing the blog posts on the company website. I reviewed, edited, and published posts and used WordPress to improve the user experience and design. I also maintained client data in the CRM system , and created reports for management using Excel.
