Brought forth leadership and organizational skills for the effective management of the committee. Communicated and promoted sustainability through numerous activities and projects. For three years at University I served passionately as the Chair for EcoMaties, the sustainability and environmental society of Stellenbosch University. It was an incredible learning opportunity to have a platform that allowed me to gain experience in project management and coordination, from design to execution. These events and projects would lead to action or awareness, and meant engaging with diverse audiences and stakeholders. Events included beach and river clean-ups, environmental film/documentary screenings, invasive hacking, sustainable markets, ecobrick workshops, gardening workshops, vegan cooking classes, vegan potluck dinners and sustainable living talks with university residences. During my time as Chair the society also developed the Green living awards at Stellenbosch University, incentivizing residences to reduce their impact on the environment. Recently, we founded the anti-plastic movement that is pushing for a plastic free campus, by encouraging all stakeholders to collaborate in finding sustainable alternatives. Additionally, this position has taught me invaluable leadership and community engagement skills. I had opportunities to engage with leaders in the field of sustainability and collaborate with organisations such as WWF South Africa, Greenpeace Africa, GreenPop and Friends of Stellenbosch Mountain.
