Lead for developments within molecular virology with specialist remit for respiratory and CNS viruses. More recently to include infections of childhood including measles viruses and other rash causing infections. Currently working on several research projects including enhanced surveillance of ILI and ARI in the Welsh population (to include bacterial as well as viral targets) and also viral causes of sudden death.Routine work includes clinical authorisation of results for all molecular targets routinely performed in the molecular diagnostic unit including TB, meningococcal disease and fungal infections.Working towards FRCPath in Virology.

Stepping down after three years and achieving the first impact factor.

(position ongoing)Available as tutor for students on the course. Also module author for respiratory viruses and recently childhood infections.This involves setting and marking exams and assignments in collaboration with the module leader in LJMU.

All aspects of traditional virological techniques undertaken including cell culture, electron microscopy serology (manual and automated) and molecular methods.During this time I also worked for 18 months performing the CE marking for the Vitros automated analyser for bloodborne viruses.
