Booking in and retrieving dot com orders and generally assisting the customer to locate products and ensure they were aware of the many deals offered. I learned how to work in a safe and efficient way in the warehouse and on the shop floor and to be able to adapt quickly to the many various roles required working in a busy retail environment in the run up to the festive period.

Maintaining licensing standards and ensuring compliance in a 24 hour AGC, Latterly working night shifts, skills employed were tact, diplomacy and discretion whilst also requiring confidence to approach customers who may have been spiralling into addictive tendencies. Trained in active listening to identify and pass customers who were planning a life event onto to the relevant department

Making sure there was plenty of stock replenishment to enable customer satisfaction and repeat custom. General housekeeping and cleaning maintenance of coffee machine and baking trays. Time management needed to ensure all jobs were done to high standard before close of business

Under the guidance of an area manager, to manage and re-motivate a small team. I enjoyed learning new skills and was rewarded by seeing the bakery’s profits increase and its re-emergence as part of the high street community again after a prolonged period of neglect. Although this position ended in redundancy due to branch closures across the south, I gained a lot from this opportunity. I developed my diplomacy skills and learnt when to exercise patience and ultimately how to get the best out of an originally hostile workforce.
