The program promotes awareness and training in emergency preparedness for the RDN as an organization, the development of plans and procedures, training and coordination of emergency program volunteers, and promoting personal, neighbourhood and organizational emergency preparedness.The Fire Services Administration provides support and leadership to the regional fire departments, assisting with training development, administration, budgeting, capital project coordination and oversees fire services compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements on behalf of the Regional District of Nanaimo. Provide a wide range of support to FortisBC operations including receiving and initiating reports of system faults or damage and emergencies. Initiate and prepare orders, schedule and dispatch personnel, field work support and logistics, closing and completion data including maintaining all GIS data integrity, measurement readings, defect and failure data and follow-on work requirements.
Responsible for overseeing and providing emergency administrative services and operational support for the Wildfire Coordination Centre. Ensuring operational readiness of the fire control room, supervision of staff, preparation of work schedules and adjusting for extended hours as needed, appropriate coverage for work volumes, notably during periods of extreme fire activity.
Providing the communication link between the wildfire coordination centres to aircraft and personnel in the field and implementing pre-approved fire control decisions. Must be able to stay calm and focused in emergency situations, know how to multitask effectively, have good written and verbal communication skills, be a team player, and be willing to work extended periods with minimal time off.
