Forest Ecology Research Plot

• Performed fieldwork by collecting and recording environmental data including measuring stem diameters, identifying terrestrial vegetation, and collecting spatial data. • Analyzed and performed survey and sampling techniques such as laying transects, and mapping individuals using a compass and hypsometer.• Maintained sampling procedures consistent to the Center for Tropical Forest Science (CTFS) standards while completing survey. • Navigated in 16 hectares of dense forest vegetation by using computer-generated maps, corner posts, and a compass. • Aided in a collaborative effort on a five person team to expand the 6-hectare study site to 16-hectares.• Wore Tyvek suit and latex gloves to protect against hazardous environmental conditions. • Evaluated reports and printouts.• Identified variances and made recommendations.

• Researched the Campus Reserve and designed pamphlet to lead students along a self-guided tour. The tour focused on education including identifying some terrestrial and riparian vegetation, and highlighting unique geologic conditions of the campus (eg. karst topography). • Planned and lead eleven events for Freshman Welcome Weeks 2012 & 2013.
