Hattiesburg, Mississippi Area

Performed summer research that focused on linking the glass transition phase to thermomechanical properties of polymers. I was trained to operate a DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry) and TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis) in order to find the glass transition temperature of various polymers. I also mentored a high school student and helped with 3D printing maintenance for our research group.

I created and tested PVC samples to ensure the quality of the product and to assist in resolving customer complaints. I also organized a reference library of the plasticizers that are used in flexible PVC products. Finally, I wrote a paper that outlined various printers, materials, and companies involved in the 3D printing industry. I was trained to operate different mechanical testing equipment such as a tensile, notch, and degradation test.

I spent five days in all seven divisions of the Office of Pollution Control. I was able to follow engineers as they performed inspections and collected samples at various locations around Mississippi. I finished my internship with a presentation that summarized my summer experience.
