Catherine Terranova is the Executive Director at the Election Integrity Foundation and the Voting Village at DEF CON. This is her fourth year working alongside Harri Hursti, the founder and President of the Election Integrity Foundation and the Voting Village. After Mr. Hursti reviewed Ms. Terranova's impressive research years ago, he immediately invited her to join the EIF team. She has been working closely alongside him ever since. She helped him organize the 2021 Voting Village at DEFCON 29, she co-organized the 2022 Voting Village at DEFCON 30, and organized the 2023 Voting Village that took place at DEFCON 31. She leads a variety of other projects for the Election Integrity Foundation, many of which focus on global geopolitical interests and span from regions like ASEAN to Africa to Eastern Europe. Currently she is overseeing a grant from the Department of State. Ms. Terranova manages and oversees all aspects of the organization and is partnered with Mr. Hursti in many of his endeavors.Ms. Terranova's research primarily focuses on misinformation and disinformation across social media platforms targeting millennial and Gen Z voters. She also explores the way American companies owned by foreign adversaries use their social media platforms to target and influence specific voter coalitions and the ways this is a threat to national security. Currently Ms. Terranova’s focus is on cyber security and election integrity with an emphasis on data and voting rights.Ms. Terranova is a Columbia University alumna where she majored in philosophy and minored in neuroscience at a unique non-traditional program called the Columbia School of General Studies. This program is for exceptional students who took a break in their academics for a year or more to do something remarkable in business or otherwise, who want to return and achieve a rigorous Ivy League education.Before and after attending Columbia University in the City of New York, Ms. Terranova has been involved in numerous cause driven startups that focused on social justice, equity, and human rights. She even founded a build-design company that was completely eco-friendly and insulated all its properties with recycled denim from thrift stores.
