I am a physicist and software developer. My physics degree followed by research for my PhD in the application of thermoluminescence in detecting gamma radiation gave me experience and training in logical thinking and problem solving and in programming. It enabled me to have the flexibility and ability to research a problem and gain understanding in order to reach a solution.An example of the type of project I have undertaken is the replacement of a dBase CRM program with a program written in C#, linked to a Firebird database. The dBase program contained customer data that had to be preserved in a new database, and then accessed by a new program that would improve on the original by having:Greater functionalityFaster data searchesFlexibility to enable future development.The user interface had to be the same as the dBase program so that the users would not need any retraining.The project was complicated by the lack of source code for the original dBase program. I had to determine the communication between the program and the customer data by comparing the operations performed via the GUI with the result seen in the database.I achieved all that was required. My program has been running successfully since 2006.I am a Director and founder member of Ischus Limited, which was formed in 2003.
