Coach, Facilitator And Leadership Development Specialist
CurrentMaking the Connections is a consultancy providing coaching, training, leadership development, facilitation and coaching supervision. We have extensive experience of supporting people at all levels to be the best they can be and to champion transformational change from the ground up.
Director
The Coalition for Collaborative Care brings together national groups and organisations alongside people living with long-term health conditions to champion a system-wide transformation in how they receive and use care and support. The Coalition's vision for the future focuses on re-framing the relationship between a person with long-term health conditions and the professionals supporting them. This allows the expertise of both to be used most effectively to help the person plan to manage their condition and maximise their well-being.
Programme Lead
I led the acclaimed Leadership for Empowered Communities programme from 2010 until it became Leadership for Personalised Care in 2018. This is a collaborative leadership programme funded by ADASS, Skills for Care, the National Skills Academy for Social Care, TLAP, Thames Valley and Wessex Leadership Academy and the LGA. The programme brings together senior leaders from across the country to explore how they can grow and nurture local social capital to improve health and wellbeing. The programme has been co-produced from the outset with people who use services – cited as ‘pioneering’ in the independent evaluation by New Economics Foundation (nef). It's amazing how that has shifted the power dynamic in the room.
Advisor - Building Community Capacity
Set up and led the Building Community Capacity Project for the Department of Health/Think Local Act Personal 2009 to 2012 (see www.thinklocalactpersonal.org.uk/bcc ). The project shares best practice and promotes innovative ways of building and nurturing active and supportive communities. Current work for TLAP includes supporting four councils and their Health and Wellbeing Boards to develop a strategic and systematic approach to nurturing community and mainstreaming co-production.
Interim Director Of Connected Communities
The Connected Communities team at RSA has been running projects across England for the past three years. During this time the personal and social support networks of over 3,000 people have been mapped - who people connect to, how, and what effect this has on their lives. In line with other studies worldwide, our research has uncovered the vital importance of social support networks in people’s lives, for mental wellbeing, recovery from substance misuse, healthy lifestyles, enterprise development, community resilience, and in their uptake and use of public services.
