The L.I.F.E. program is a transition program that targets students whose main goal is employment. The program is designed for students with disabilities who have completed at least 4 years of high school. Students should have prior vocational training experience. The student must be eligible for Vocational Rehabilitation Services.L.I.F.E. Components Customized Career Exploration – Work experiences will be designed for each student based on their strengths, abilities, and interests. Skill Development – Students will build skills in communication, employability, and problem solving, along with job specific skills. The students will utilize these skills to become independent in a supported employment environment. Outcome of Employment – Work experiences will provide situational assessment information to the student, families, and team members in order to make realistic career choices that lead to meaningful employment.The L.I.F.E. program is cutting edge in the area of building communication and employability skills for people with special needs. Allowing students to use a business environment as their training platform is unparalleled to the average school or community setting. In the four years I have been teaching the L.I.F.E. program, I have seen personal, professional and social growth in my students that is just not possible to accomplish in the school setting. The results are clear. My students are leaving this program with the skills and knowledge to get and keep their dream jobs. L.I.F.E. gives students with special needs the opportunity to achieve their goals of obtaining meaningful employment, gaining independence, and becoming productive members of society.
